Mysterious Mutant Rat Caught on Camera in Mexico
A bizarre creature with elongated limbs, a long tail and unusually prominent claws has emerged from the shadows in northern Mexico. Images from a camera trap have fueled speculation about an unknown predator, while reports of missing farm animals have revived one of Latin America’s most chilling legends: the Chupacabra.

The strange case has attracted the attention of Jaime Maussan, one of Mexico’s best-known UFO researchers. He has named the alleged creature the Creature of the Juárez Valley, after the rural region near Ciudad Juárez, close to the United States border.
According to reports published in October 2026, the latest footage was recorded on October 14 in an agricultural area southeast of Ciudad Juárez. The pale, apparently hairless animal appears to move along a brick wall and climb through its surroundings. Its long tail, slender limbs and unusual silhouette have prompted comparisons with a reptile, a large rodent and an unidentified creature.
Maussan’s team estimates that the creature could measure around 1.8 meters, including a tail measuring approximately 90 centimeters. Another report describes it as nearly two meters long. These figures are estimates based on the creature’s apparent size in the available images, rather than measurements of a captured specimen.
A mysterious predator, missing animals and a disturbing theory
The mystery deepens with claims that chickens, rabbits and fighting roosters have disappeared or been killed in the surrounding area. Reports have also linked the alleged predator to the deaths of larger animals, including horses. Maussan says he first became interested after hearing about a boy who reportedly saw a strange animal seize a chicken and climb a tree with it.
Some residents have reportedly become frightened by the stories. However, local authorities have not confirmed receiving official reports of mysterious animal attacks in the valley. No carcass, DNA sample or other biological evidence has been made publicly available to establish what the creature might be.
Maussan has raised an even stranger possibility: the animal could have come from another dimension. He has also compared it with the so-called Metepec Creature, an alleged unknown being that attracted attention in Mexico in 2007. That earlier specimen was later identified as a squirrel monkey whose body had been altered through taxidermy.

The new images have also revived comparisons with the Chupacabra, the legendary predator blamed for attacking livestock across parts of the Americas. Yet the creature’s identity remains unknown, and its appearance alone cannot establish that it represents a new species or anything supernatural.
For now, the Creature of the Juárez Valley remains an unsettling mystery. Is it an ordinary animal seen from an unusual angle, an escaped exotic pet, or something that has yet to be identified?
Clearer footage and independently examined biological evidence may eventually provide answers. Until then, the strange figure moving through the darkness of northern Mexico continues to invite speculation.

A small animal discovered that existed approximately 120 million years ago in what is now China was found to have a third set of teeth, and these animals also had webbed feet.
