Ukrainian Forces Shoot Down Second Russian Mi-28 Helicopter in One Week
Ukrainian air defense pilots have shot down a second Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter in just one week, according to Ukraine’s 115th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
The brigade published video of the latest attack on its official Telegram channel. The Russian combat helicopter was targeted by an FPV interceptor drone operated by the “Aliens” anti-aircraft missile battalion.
The latest operation marks another success for the Ukrainian unit, whose pilots are using interceptor drones to target Russian military aircraft. The brigade described the attack as an example of precision, endurance and combat effectiveness.
“Precision work, ironclad endurance, and combat success… Sometimes what is considered difficult and impossible for some is just another day for the pilots of the ‘Aliens’ anti-aircraft missile battalion,” the brigade said in a statement accompanying the footage.
Just a few days earlier, anti-aircraft gunners from the 115th Separate Mechanized Brigade also shot down a Russian Mi-28N helicopter. The entire crew was killed, and the aircraft was completely destroyed.
The Mi-28 is a Russian attack helicopter designed to engage ground targets and provide close air support. Known as the “Night Hunter,” it is equipped for combat missions and is used by Russian forces in the war against Ukraine.
The destruction of a second Mi-28 within a week highlights Ukraine’s growing use of relatively low-cost unmanned systems to challenge Russian military aviation.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian forces carried out a precision strike on a Russian airfield using Neptune missiles. The strike destroyed six Russian Su-34M fighter-bombers, dealing a serious blow to Moscow’s combat aviation.
