Ukraine Destroys Six Russian Su-34M Fighter-Bombers
Ukraine’s Navy has reported a precision strike against Russia’s Borisoglebsk military airfield in the Voronezh region, claiming that six Russian Su-34M fighter-bombers were destroyed.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, the operation took place overnight on October 15, targeting military aircraft stationed deep inside Russian territory. Preliminary information indicates that Ukrainian-made Neptune coastal defence missiles were used in the attack.
The Su-34M is a modern multirole combat aircraft that plays a significant role in Russia’s air campaign against Ukraine. Russian forces regularly deploy these fighter-bombers to launch guided bombs and missiles against Ukrainian military positions and settlements near the front line.
The Ukrainian Navy described the destruction of the aircraft as a significant blow to Russia’s tactical aviation capabilities. Each Su-34M can carry several guided or high-explosive bombs, along with different types of missiles, making the aircraft an important platform for airstrikes.
A large fire and repeated explosions were reportedly observed at the airfield following the attack. The extent of the damage to the base’s infrastructure, as well as possible casualties among Russian personnel, remains under assessment.
If confirmed, the reported loss of six aircraft in a single operation would represent a substantial setback for Russian tactical aviation. Fewer operational fighter-bombers could limit the number of sorties available for attacks on Ukrainian defensive positions and frontline communities.
It was also previously reported that Ukrainian forces successfully struck a Moscow oil refinery. A massive fire broke out at this key Russian fuel facility, whose oil revenues finance the war against Ukraine.
