Ukrainian military to destroy Russian drones with new Oerlikon cannon
The Ukrainian army has started using the Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 anti-aircraft gun with air burst ammunition.
The Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 is a remote-controlled 35-mm anti-aircraft gun designed for quick and accurate response to airborne threats.
The system is equipped with tracking radar and an electro-optical sensor unit. This allows it to locate, track and engage targets with high accuracy.
A unique feature of the gun is its ability to process target data from 3D search radars and higher-order control systems, enabling it to operate autonomously.
One of its main features is the integration of Oerlikon Ahead programmable air burst munitions.
The projectiles are optimized to counter a wide range of threats, including drones, missiles, and artillery shells.
The projectiles explode before impact and disperse tungsten submunitions, which creates a cloud of shrapnel capable of neutralizing aerial targets.
The cannons were given to Ukraine by Switzerland through Rheinmetall AG, a company specializing in advanced air defense systems.
The exact number of Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 systems delivered to Ukraine has not been officially confirmed.
