The head of the U.S. Secret Service has resigned
It has become known that the Director of the United States Secret Service (USSS), Kimberly Cheatle resigned after the federal agency came under scrutiny.
The reason for his resignation was his failure to prevent an attempt on the life of Donald Trump. This was reported by the White House.
Reuters notes that the agency, whose job it is to protect current and former heads of state, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Questions about the Secret Service arose after Trump was wounded at an outdoor campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
The attacking perpetrator shot the politician from a rooftop where the event and all of its participants were visible.
The USSS leadership, specifically Kimberly Cheatle, has faced criticism from both major US political parties.
She had earlier refused to answer lawmakers’ questions about what security measures were taken at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.
