Doomsday Clock moved one second closer to nuclear midnight

The Doomsday Clock has been moved one second closer to “nuclear midnight”, now 89 seconds away.

This is the closest time to the symbolic “nuclear midnight” in the history of the clock.

This was reported by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which has been working on the project since its inception in 1947, writes The Insider.

The Doomsday Clock symbolizes the threat of global catastrophe, and its hands reflect the level of international tension.

In 2023, the clock was moved immediately 10 seconds ahead, leaving it at 90 seconds to midnight.

This decision was connected, among other things, with the Russian-Ukrainian war and the risk of nuclear escalation.

It is known that in 2024 the position of the hands on the Doomsday Clock did not change.
