The eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano in the Pacific Ocean in January 2022 was the most powerful atmospheric explosion ever recorded.

It caused shock waves and acoustic vibrations that circled the Earth at least six times.

This can be compared to the power of the largest nuclear explosion, the Tsar Bomb.

The ash emission rose to a height of 58 kilometers, breaking through the stratosphere and reaching the mesosphere.

Even the ionosphere at an altitude of 100 km felt the event: the waves changed the density of charged particles in space.

The rumble of the eruption was heard at a distance of 10000 km, and its effect on the atmosphere was recorded by satellites around the world.
