Four whales washed ashore near the town of Tateyama in the Japanese prefecture of Chiba in the east of the island of Honshu, writes NHK.

They were filmed by a local resident who came to the shore in the morning to check the wave height for surfing.

According to the meteorological service of Japan, the tsunami announced after the earthquake reached the shores of Japan. In some prefectures the wave was three meters high.

Earlier it was reported that the earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 occurred off the coast of Kamchatka.

The epicenter of the shock was located about 150 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 17 km.

A tsunami threat was declared in Kamchatka Krai, Sakhalin Oblast, Japan, China, New Zealand, the Philippines, Alaska, and Hawaii.
