Ukraine is obliged to negotiate with the Russian Federation
Pope Francis called Ukraine the losing side in the war with Russia and said that it must find the courage to admit this by agreeing to negotiations.
The pontiff said this in an interview with the Swiss television and radio company RSI, which will be aired on March 20.
Answering a journalist’s question about his attitude to Ukraine’s possible defeat, the Pope said that he considers the one who thinks about people and sees the situation, and who “has the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate,” to be stronger.
According to the pontiff, negotiations today can be conducted with the help of international powers.
“Today you can negotiate with the help of international powers. The word ‘negotiation’ is a bold word. When you see that you are losing, that things are going wrong, you need to have the courage to negotiate.”
“You are ashamed, but how many deaths will this end? It is time to negotiate, look for some country that will act as a mediator,” Francis said.
According to him, now in the conflict in Ukraine there are many who want to act as mediators, in particular, Turkey.
“Don’t be ashamed to negotiate before the situation gets worse,” the Pope added.
