Sweden will hand over the largest military aid package to Ukraine
Sweden has announced the largest ever military aid package to Ukraine, worth $1.3 billion.
According to Swedish Defense Minister Paul Unson, this aid package will be the 16th since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
It is known that as part of military aid, Sweden will transfer a unique radar reconnaissance and control aircraft ASC 890 to Ukraine.
The aircraft performs approximately the same functions as the Russian A-50, only it is smaller, newer and cheaper.
It will provide completely new airborne radar reconnaissance and combat control capabilities against targets in the air and at sea.
This means increased long-range strike capabilities for Ukraine against targets. The aircraft have a target detection radius of up to 500 kilometers.
In addition, Sweden is transferring its entire fleet of armored personnel carriers, RB 99 missiles, artillery shells, etc. to Ukraine.
It also became known that the German defense concern Rheinmetall ordered hundreds of millions of euros worth of air defense shells.
The company said that the customer was “one of the European countries”, ordering several hundred thousand magazines of 35-mm AHEAD shells for Skynex systems.
Ukraine has such systems, and their advantage is their relative cheapness compared to guided missiles.
In addition, such munitions cannot be eliminated by electronic countermeasures.
Skynex is a system based on a cannon. It is suitable for fighting air targets at close range.
