Russian military satellites release mysterious object into space
A trio of secret Russian satellites launched in February this year released an unknown object into orbit.
This intrigued American experts on tracking spacecraft. About this writes Space.
Three Russian military satellites named Cosmos-2581, Cosmos-2582 and Cosmos-2583 were put into orbit by a launch vehicle from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on February 2.

Since then, the satellites, whose purpose is unknown, have exhibited strange behavior.
They are currently in a near-polar orbit above the Earth’s surface.
The secret Russian satellites appeared to be conducting potential rendezvous operations or maneuvering near other objects in space.
This was stated by American astrophysicist and specialist in tracking the movement of spacecraft in orbit, Jonathan McDowell.
According to McDowell, the U.S. Space Force has detected the appearance of a new object in orbit.
Space Force have cataloged a new object associated with the Kosmos-2581/2582/2583 launch. It may have separated from Kosmos-2583 on Mar 18.

Russia did not provide any details about the satellites and their mission.
The mysterious object could be used for a number of tasks, including military experiments.
It could be to observe other satellites, test docking or group flight technologies.
It could also be used to test technology for destroying satellites in orbit, experts believe.
On the other hand, there is an opinion that this object could be a useful scientific payload, even the result of unintentional destruction of one of the satellites.
The designation “Kosmos” was used by the USSR, and later Russia, for a very wide range of military and scientific satellites starting in 1962.
These satellites are believed to be part of secret scientific and classified military projects.
They are particularly concerned with research to test anti-satellite weapons technology and are also used for reconnaissance.
