One of the largest stadiums in the world was blown up
In the city of Shah Alamy, Malaysia, one of the most capacious stadiums in Asia for 80 thousand spectators was demolished.
Video of the large-scale explosion and collapse of the roof of the Shah Alam arena went viral on social networks. The sports facility itself was built back in 1994.
The structure was among the top 20 most spacious stadiums in the world, as well as in the top 5 in Asia.
The decision to demolish was made due to the emergency condition of the facility. The arena was recognized as not ready to host events in 2020.
It was also tried to be repaired, closing maintenance since December 2015. Now the work on cleaning the rubble will begin.
It is planned to be completed by the middle of 2025. Then on the site of the ruins will be built a new stadium, already designed for 45 thousand.
Construction of the 80-thousand-seat arena was started on January 1, 1990, and the facility was completed on July 16, 1994. The national team of Malaysia played here.
