Monkey that escaped from laboratory shot dead
It has been reported that a local resident in the US state of Mississippi shot a monkey dead out of fear for her children’s lives.
The monkey was infected with hepatitis and coronavirus, according to the Associated Press.
The incident occurred near Jessica Bond Ferguson’s home when her 16-year-old son noticed the animal in the yard.
The woman knew that monkeys that had escaped from laboratory trucks could carry dangerous viruses.
As a result, she decided to shoot the dangerous animal herself without waiting for the experts and police to arrive.
“I did what any other mother would do to protect her children,” Jessica said.
As is known, at the end of October, monkeys escaped from a truck after a road accident.
The infected animals were in the vehicle and were being transported to Tulane University.
The police were searching for one of the fugitives, as most of the monkeys had been successfully caught or destroyed.
The escaped monkeys could have been infected with dangerous viruses such as hepatitis C and COVID-19.
