Two nuclear countries, India and Pakistan, are on the brink of war
On April 22, 4 terrorists in India shot dead 26 tourists near the border with Pakistan in the Kashmir region. Countries have been arguing over Kashmir since independence from Britain in 1947
India blames Pakistan and has stopped issuing visas and revoked those already issued to Pakistani citizens
India has closed the largest checkpoint on the border, expelled military attachés and halted a river sharing treaty (which could trigger a water crisis in Pakistan)
Pakistan admits no guilt, has also stopped issuing visas, reduced the number of diplomats, expelled military attachés, closed airspace to Indian airlines and halted all trade with India
India has not publicly presented evidence linking the attack to Pakistan, but it is noted that the attack has “cross-border” traces
In parallel to all this, terrorist groups in both countries have stepped up to provoke more conflict.
