The court canceled the duties that Trump imposed around the world
It became known that the court in the United States canceled the duties that Trump imposed around the world. The President has exceeded his authority.
The federal court of the United States recognized the invalidity of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on dozens of countries.
The court ruled that he exceeded his authority by using broad language about a national emergency to justify them, writes Reuters.
The unanimous decision by a three-judge panel of the US Court of International Trade was a major blow to one of Trump’s key economic policy initiatives.
He has tried to use tariffs as a pressure tool to reach more favorable trade agreements around the world.
In response, the U.S. Justice Department quickly filed an appeal, opening the way for further legal battles and potential Supreme Court review.
Trump attributed the imposition of the duties to the declaration of a national emergency related to the fentanyl trade and the threat of a chronic trade deficit.
He also imposed additional tariffs in response to mirror measures by other countries.
However, the court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 does not authorize the president to impose unlimited tariffs, even in the context of emergencies.
Recall that in April, analysts wrote that the world is threatened with the third global recession in 20 years because of the tariffs of the so-called “Day of Liberation” Trump.”
