China is building a secret military base in Tajikistan
China is actively strengthening in Central Asia – and even building a military base there.
A secret military base in Tajikistan is located on the site of a former Soviet outpost.
Although it has never been officially announced, satellite images show that construction has been underway for years, according to the British newspaper The Telegraph.
In 2016. Tajikistan and China signed a security agreement. Since then, the two countries’ armed forces have been holding regular joint exercises.
After the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in 2021, Dushanbe became particularly concerned about the situation on its nearly 1,300-kilometer border with that country.
The Chinese base is located in the mountains and has observation towers and access roads, as satellite images show.
Both Chinese and Tajik military personnel are stationed there.
China’s share of Tajikistan’s foreign debt is about 40 percent, and earlier it even exceeded 60 percent.
The country has become heavily dependent on China economically.
