Brits save Swedish crew from coffee shortage
In the Baltic Sea, a British ship saved a Swedish submarine crew from a coffee shortage.
Right during a large-scale NATO exercise, a Swedish Södermanland-class submarine reported an “emergency” – it had run out of ground coffee.
The allies had to rush to the rescue: the Royal Navy’s fast patrol boat HMS Dasher came to share supplies.
A British sailor threw a rope on the submarine, and through it the sailors handed their colleagues a waterproof bag with coffee and Italian cookies.
HMS Dasher had to keep a distance of five meters as the submarine released compressed gas.
The operation was successful – the transfer of coffee kept the Swedish submarine alert.
