NASA’s Mars rover Perseverance has discovered an interesting stone on the surface of Mars that resembles an ancient warrior’s helmet.
The mysterious stone has a pointed top and a texture with many dimples; it looks like ancient armor. About it writes Space.com.
Scientists believe that in some Martian rocks, these spherules are formed when groundwater seeps through the pores of sedimentary rocks.
“This hat-shaped rock is made up of spherulas. It differs not so much in shape as in the fact that it is almost entirely composed of spherules,” said a NASA lab representative.
For now, the rock remains a fascinating snapshot of Martian history.
Such features help scientists reconstruct the ecology of Mars by showing how wind, water, and internal processes shaped the landscape.
Earlier rovers have also found many rocks with surprising shapes, from doughnut-shaped meteorites to avocado-like rocks.
Scientists claim that such images are an example of the phenomenon of pareidolia. This is when a person’s brain tends to see familiar images in random visual data.
