Man goes viral after dive into pool to retrieve lost cap
A man in multicolored swimming trunks jumped into the pool to get a cap of one of the participants of the Olympics in Paris and became a hero of the first days of the Games.
The video of the cap rescue became instantly popular on social media, Reuters reported.
The episode, which confused spectators in the 15,000-seat arena, occurred between swims in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke.
As the man headed toward the pool, there was a disapproving roar from the spectators in the stands.
However, when he dove into the water and pulled out a white cap, the spectators quickly realized what was going on and cheered him loudly.
It turned out that American swimmer Emma Webber had lost her swimming cap during the race.
A lifeguard pulled her out of the water, waved to the fans, then corrected his swimming trunks and left.
Meanwhile, a representative of the organizers of the Games explained that such a situation is a common occurrence at swimming competitions.
