A diver has solved the mystery of the sunken ship

It became known that off the coast of Britain found the wreckage of a ship of the XIX century, the location of which for a long time remained a mystery. This is reported by CNN.

According to 53-year-old diver Dom Robinson, he learned about the unidentified wreckage from the UK Hydrographic Office and decided to explore them.

After diving to the wreck, he found a broken dinner plate with the seal of the Cunard Steamship Company on it.

Thanks to this object, Robinson realized he had stumbled upon the steamship Nantes, which had sunk 140 years earlier.

Harry Bennett, professor of history at Plymouth University, said the Nantes went down in November 1888.

The Nantes collided with the German ship Theodor Ruger, which made a huge hole in its side and broke the lifeboats.

The crew tried in vain to plug the leak. Of the 26 people on the steamer, only three survived.

“The thought that you’re looking at a plate that crew members may have had their last meal on is very, very moving,” Bennett shared his emotions about the find.
