A mysterious triangular pyramid on Mars in Valles Marineris
A viral post has appeared on social media featuring NASA images from the Martian surface.
The images clearly show an object that many are calling a triangular pyramid on Mars. It’s almost the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
It all started back in 2001. Independent image researcher Keith Laney was looking through data from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor orbiter when he suddenly saw it.
He immediately said, “If we found something like this on Earth, we’d be digging around there with shovels.” Since then, the object has appeared in five different images: from 2001 to 2016, both from the Mars Global Surveyor and from the more recent Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
In each photo, under different lighting conditions, the structure retains its triangular shape. And in March 2026, documentary filmmaker Brian Cory Dobbs posted this footage again on X with a bold statement: “On Mars, there is a three-sided pyramid the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt.”
He doesn’t claim this is proof of extraterrestrial life, but he honestly asks, “What geological force could have created such a perfect three-sided structure?” And it instantly went viral on TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube.

Where exactly is the Martian pyramid?
The object is located in the western part of Candor Chasma, one of the deepest and most impressive areas of Valles Marineris.
This is the second-largest canyon system in the entire solar system: almost 4,000 km long and up to 7 km deep. The area is known for its steep cliffs, landslides, and layered rocks, which can indeed create unusual shapes.
NASA scientists explain that this is most likely the result of natural erosion. But many independent researchers, including Laney and Dobbs, believe that the overly perfect geometry raises questions.
What do the experts say, and why is it important?
NASA has never officially recognized the object as artificial. But Laney and Dobbs emphasize: if such a thing were found on Earth, archaeologists would already be excavating it. But here we’ve been simply flying past in orbit for 25 years.
The original images in NASA’s public archives (HiRISE and MGS)—the structure does indeed look suspiciously symmetrical in all five frames.
Under different lighting conditions (the image from July 4, 2001, and the one from April 2002), the shadows highlight the edges. This is no longer a single frame but a series of confirmations.
You have to admit: when NASA itself publishes such images, and independent researchers find them again and again, it becomes increasingly difficult to ignore.
This is a classic example of how one photograph can change our understanding of the Red Planet.
