Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Pope Francis today. This was reported by Vatican News.
Zelenskyy presented the pontiff with a painting depicting a child among the ruins in the Ukrainian city of Bucha.
This painting symbolizes the war crimes of the aggressor country, Russia, in Ukraine.
According to the author’s idea, the painting depicts the girl Marichka, before whose eyes Russian soldiers tortured and killed her father, mother and grandmother.
The Pope presented the Ukrainian leader with a bronze plaque with a flower growing next to a bird and the inscription “Peace is a tender flower”.
Ukraine is counting on the Holy See’s assistance to help Ukrainians captured in Russian captivity return home.
“The return of our people home from Russian captivity is the main issue during the meeting with Pope Francis”, Zelenskyy said.
The Italian edition of ANSA reports that Vladimir Zelensky’s meeting with Pope Francis lasted 35 minutes.
