In Russia, warned of possible disruptions in the work of YouTube.
It is reported that the download speed and playback quality will become worse for subscribers of all operators.
This is due to alleged problems with equipment owned by Google.
The Google equipment in question is Google Global Cache (GGC)-these are special servers that cache Google content.
When a user downloads a video or app from Google Play for the first time, that information is stored on a regional GGC server.
Thus, the next user can download the data faster.
After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Google lost the ability to maintain Russian GGC servers.
In early 2022, it was reported that on the networks of Russian operators, there were about 700 active servers GGC.
According to the journalists’ forecast, due to the wear and tear of the equipment, the number of GGC servers was to be reduced to 450 by the end of 2023.
On July 5, Russians reported massive problems with YouTube. There were no explanations for the slowdown of the service.
Two days ago, the State Duma talked about blocking YouTube, which is allegedly due to the fact that the hosting uses “censorship” against Russian propagandists.
At the same time, the first discussions about the need to block the video hosting service began immediately after the war broke out.
