It became known why Türkiye eventually agreed to allow Sweden into NATO.
The US State Department said that 40 new F-16 fighters will be sold to Ankara and another 79 old ones will be modernized.
The total amount of the transaction will be more than $23 billion.
A day earlier, on January 25, Erdogan approved the decision of his parliament, which approved Sweden’s application to join the Alliance.
The Swedes submitted an application to join NATO in the spring of 2022. Türkiye and Hungary have since blocked it.
It is also reported that Hungary will make a similar decision at the end of winter.
At this time, the Hungarian parliament should return from vacation, as stated by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
