Water buffaloes from South Asia
Indian buffalo cannot live without water.
The Indian buffalo, or water buffalo, as they are called, live in South Asia.
They lead a life closely associated with bodies of water, preferably standing or slowly flowing water.
These amazing animals can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes.
This allows them to safely cross deep rivers and lakes to escape predators.
In the cooler morning and evening hours, buffalo actively graze, with aquatic vegetation making up to 70% of their diet.
During the hottest hours of the day, they lie down, submerged up to their heads in water, to keep cool and protect themselves from insects.
