The data of 800 thousand owners of Volkswagen electric cars were “leaked” into the public domain.
According to Spiegel, nearly 800,000 drivers were affected by a data leak of Volkswagen’s electric car driving app.
Terabytes of information, including data from politicians, entrepreneurs, police officers and intelligence officers, were available in Amazon’s cloud storage for several months.
The information allowed tracking cars and owners in Ukraine, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the UK and Israel.
In the last two countries, the data could have been of military interest.
The leak occurred due to a mistake by Cariad, a software developer for Volkswagen.
After Chaos Computer Club specialists contacted the company, the access was promptly closed.
