Ukrainian authorities consider restoring nuclear arsenal
Ukraine is seriously considering the possibility of restoring nuclear weapons. This is reported by Bild with reference to a source.
“We have the materials, we have the knowledge. If there is an order, it will only take us a few weeks to get the first bomb,” said a Ukrainian official.
And Western countries should think less about Russia’s red lines and much more about Ukraine’s red lines.
According to analyst Julian Repke, a condition for restoring the nuclear weapons Ukraine has surrendered could be a second attempt by the Russian Federation to go after Kyiv.
Today, Zelenskyy said in Brussels that Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons and Russia violated the Budapest Memorandum.
Zelenskyy recalled that the 1994 Budapest Memorandum involving Russia, the US and the UK promised Ukraine protection of territorial integrity in exchange for giving up nuclear weapons.
But now this document does not work, so the country’s security can be ensured either by NATO membership or by nuclear weapons.
We shall remind you that the Ukrainian president also raised the topic of restoring nuclear weapons at the Munich conference a few days before the Russian invasion.
Later, Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a briefing with NATO Secretary General Rutte denied Bild’s information that Ukraine was going to bring back its nuclear arsenal.
“We have never said that we plan to build nuclear weapons,” the Ukrainian leader said.
