Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have signed a 10-year security agreement between the USA and Ukraine.
The agreement is meant to be a step towards Ukraine’s possible NATO membership.
The agreement with the US concerns the supply of squadrons of combat aircraft and Patriot anti-missile systems to Ukraine.
“Very specifically on Patriot systems, on the supply of combat squadrons to Ukraine. I’m not mistaken, specifically squadrons that include F-16s, but not limited to them,” the Ukrainian President said after signing the security agreement.
The US will first of all transfer air defense systems to Ukraine, and only then – to all other customers.
So Joe Biden commented on the priority of deliveries of Patriot systems.
“I have the support of five allied countries. Everything we have in terms of weapons and everything Ukraine needs will be provided,” Biden added at a briefing after the signing of the security agreement.
The signed security agreement does not imply sending US troops to Ukraine, Joe Biden has said.
“The United States is going to help Ukraine, but it will not send American troops to fight in Ukraine,”
“But we will provide weapons and ammunition, expand intelligence sharing, and continue to train brave Ukrainian soldiers,” the US president said.
