Trump doubles duty on goods from China to 20%

US President Donald Trump has doubled the import duty on goods from China from 10% to 20%.

He accused Beijing of inefficiency in the fight against drug trafficking for the United States.

The decree about this appeared on the official website of the White House.

In response to the increase in duties, China announced the introduction of additional tariffs on imports of American agricultural products into the country.

An additional 10% tax will be imposed on imports of sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, fish, fruits, vegetables and dairy products.

Imports of chicken meat, wheat, corn and cotton will be subject to a 15% tax.

China has also filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization in this regard.

In addition, U.S. punitive duties on Canada and Mexico went into effect today.

Imports from these countries are now taxed at 25%, with a 10% duty imposed on energy products from Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced retaliatory measures against the US.

According to him, within 21 days, Canada will impose duties on U.S. goods totaling more than $100 billion.

Mexico has not yet officially announced possible retaliatory steps.
