It has become known that Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau has announced that he is resigning as leader of the ruling Liberal Party.
He will remain in the post of head of government until the Liberals will not choose a new leader. This is reported by the BBC.
His decision to resign was preceded by a decline in the popularity of the party and open conflicts with other leading Liberals.
Trudeau announced his decision Tuesday at a morning press conference.
Canadian media sources explained that Trudeau decided to announce his resignation before the Liberal Party’s national convention.
The party convention is scheduled to begin on Wednesday. There will decide on the re-election of the party leadership.
Trudeau himself, as journalists believe, wanted to avoid a situation when his own fellow party members will remove him from the post of leader.
