The year 2024 was the most conflict-ridden year since the Second World War. This is reported by The Times.
It is reported that according to the Swedish project Uppsala Conflict Data Program, 61 armed confrontations were recorded in 2024.
Of these armed confrontations at the level of states, 11 of them have grown into full-scale wars with more than 1000 dead in the battles.
At the same time, the number of civilian casualties increased by 31% to 13,900, and the war in Ukraine remains the most destructive.
Last year, nearly 160,000 people died worldwide because of armed conflicts.
This result among the dead is the fifth highest since 1989.
Experts also warn of an increase in the number of interstate conflicts and cases where countries support armed groups outside their territory.
This, analysts say, provokes a disturbing dynamic that could lead to even more casualties.
