The IAEA called for the urgent return of the Zaporozhye NPP to the control of Ukraine.
The Agency’s Board of Directors supported the draft resolution on nuclear safety developed by Ukraine by a majority vote.
The IAEA calls on Russia to urgently withdraw all unauthorized personnel, including military personnel, from the plant and immediately return the Zaporozhye NPP to full control
Ukraine in accordance with the current license issued by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.
The resolution was supported by 20 countries, two delegations voted against (China and, of course, the Russian Federation), and another 12 abstained.
The day before, IAEA head Rafael Grossi met with Putin in Sochi.
“It is important to exchange information with the Russian President on the nuclear safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and other global challenges in the field of non-proliferation,” Grossi said.
