It became known that the new head of British foreign intelligence MI6 for the first time in its 116-year history will be a woman.
The British government officially confirmed that MI6 intelligence in the fall will be headed by 47-year-old Blaise Metreweli. She will succeed the current head of MI6, Richard Moore.
Metrevely, who heads MI6’s technology division, joined the Secret Intelligence Service in 1999.
She has reportedly spent most of her career in operational roles in the Middle East and Europe.
Blaise Metrevely previously held senior positions in both MI6 and MI5, the counter-intelligence agency responsible for internal security.
The British woman is also known to have studied anthropology at Cambridge University.
Metrevely’s appointment comes at a time when Britain is facing threats on an unprecedented scale.
This was stated by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is currently in Canada for the G7 summit.
