Artificial intelligence learns to understand barking dogs

The Chinese are developing an AI translator for animals

Chinese technology company Baidu is developing an artificial intelligence system capable of interpreting animal sounds and translating them into human-understandable words.

The patent was registered back in December 2024, but the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration published it only now, writes Reuters.

The system collects a variety of data about the animal, including voice signals, behavioral changes, and other biological traits.

Using machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing techniques, the AI analyzes the animal’s emotional state and converts it into semantic meaning understandable to humans.

If the system encounters a new sound that does not match previously recorded emotional states, the data is manually labeled and the model is updated to improve accuracy.

A Baidu spokesperson noted that the technology is in the research phase and there is no specific timeline for its commercial rollout yet.

Previously, similar projects were launched by international organizations such as Project CETI and Earth Species Project, which also seek to decipher animal language using artificial intelligence.
