The company of Elon Musk sold only, 9945 cars in the EU, Britain, Norway, Switzerland and other countries in the region, while a year ago it sold 18,161 units.
It is noted that one of the reasons was the transition to new production lines for the Model Y – the most popular model of Tesla. The Financial Times writes.
But there is another problem: Elon Musk is becoming an increasingly controversial figure in politics.
He openly supports extreme right-wing parties and criticizes the leaders of Germany, Britain and Ukraine. Because of this, his image in Europe is deteriorating.
YouGov polls show that the majority in Germany and the UK view Musk negatively, and his interference in politics is perceived as undesirable.
This may have had an impact on Tesla’s weak January sales. Germany registered just 1,277 new cars, its worst showing since July 2021.
In France, the drop was 63%, the anti-record since August 2022. And in Britain for the first time Tesla lost to the Chinese brand BYD.
