It has become known that the performance of the Russian ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater, Svetlana Zakharova in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana has been cancelled.
Zakharova supports the policy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
“Russian culture is a culture of aggression, terror, expansion and propaganda. We thank our partners for preventing the spread of Russian so-called “great art” on world stages and venues,”, stated the message.
The Bolshoi Theater’s production of Modanse, where Zakharova plays the role of Coco Chanel, was to be staged at the “Festival Ljubljana” on August 20, 2024.
Earlier, the show was also canceled in the South Korean capital Seoul after criticism from the Ukrainian side. It was to be held on April 17-21 at the Seoul Arts Center.
The “Gala Concert of the Bolshoi Ballet 2024 in Seoul,” scheduled for April 16–18, was also canceled.
Zakharova is a native of the Ukrainian city of Lutsk. She studied at the Kyiv Choreographic School.
She is a member of the United Russia party, deputy of the State Duma of the V convocation (2007-2011).
Since 2018, she has been a member of the Russian Presidential Council on Culture and Art.
In 2014, Zakharova signed a letter in support of “the Russian president’s position on Ukraine and Crimea.”
After the start of the full-scale invasion, she did not speak out on the topic, but in 2024, she became Putin’s confidant during his presidential campaign.
Since January 2023, she has been on Ukraine’s sanctions list.
