Putin’s computer is running an old Windows XP operating system

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s computer in the Kremlin is running Windows XP, which has been unsupported for 11 years.

Thus, his personal computer with an unplated operating system could easily become a target for attack by hackers.

This was pointed out by the Russian opposition media after studying photos from his office published by the Kremlin this year.

It is currently unknown whether he is actually using the computer, but at least the content of the desktop on the screen changes from time to time.

It is noted that Microsoft released Windows XP in 2001 and stopped supporting it in 2014.

The last security update for it came out in 2019. At the same time, the OS on Putin’s work computer was still not updated.

Journalists noticed this from several photos on the Kremlin’s website. The last one was published at the end of April 2025, when Putin met with the head of the general staff Gerasimov.

Thus, they concluded that Putin’s computer was prone to vulnerabilities identified after the end of support for the operating system.

Putin’s use of an outdated operating system was reported back in 2019.

However, since then, Kremlin technicians have never bothered to supply him with a more modern and secure system.

Earlier, Putin demanded to “strangle” foreign services that announced their withdrawal from the Russian market after the attack on Ukraine.

But foreign services themselves have not completely left the market. We are talking, in particular, about Zoom and Microsoft.

Putin also demanded to rid Russians who use Western programs and services of “bad habits”.

Because large companies are switching to Yandex and VK services, while ordinary users have “habits.”
