The US Treasury Secretary has agreed that Putin is a war criminal.
During a speech before Congress, Scott Bessent was asked a direct question about whether he considers the head of the Kremlin a war criminal.
The American minister gave an affirmative answer to this, saying, “Yes.”
And when asked further if he would negotiate in such a case, Bessent voiced the opinion that it is the nature of diplomacy to negotiate with both sides.
“I think that’s the nature of diplomacy, when you have to negotiate with both sides. I think negotiations were necessary with the Japanese after World War II,” Bessent said.
Earlier, Donald Trump, as promised, designated May 8 as World War II Victory Day.
He called it the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Allied powers over National Socialism and fascism.
In doing so, he reiterated the crucial role of the United States in that victory.
Trump stated that without the sacrifices of American soldiers, the war would not have been won, and our world today would look very different.
In World War II, more than 250,000 Americans lost their lives fighting against the Nazi regime.
