Police in Armenia begin violent dispersal of protesters
In Yerevan, a parliamentary session with the participation of Prime Minister Pashinyan started with a scuffle with MPs.
Protesters around the building were dispersed with tear gas by law enforcement officers.
The session of the Armenian parliament was interrupted due to a fight between MPs, media reports say.
The reason is the words of the country’s Prime Minister, Nikola Pashinyan, about “cowardly deserter generals” who surrendered Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020.
Protesters from the Tavush for Homeland movement gathered in front of the Armenian parliament building in Yerevan.
This movement, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, is demanding Pashinyan’s resignation over the defeat of Nagorno-Karabakh in 2023.
Police have now used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
Galstanyan’s protest movement is described by pro-state Armenian media as Russian-controlled.
Earlier today, Russian media outlets circulated Pashinyan’s words about Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO.
It was reported that Pashinyan announced a complete withdrawal from the organization.
