Spanish police are investigating the disappearance of Pablo Picasso’s painting “Still Life with Guitar.”
It is known that the missing painting was being transported from Madrid to Granada, according to the publication The Guardian.
Picasso’s work was to be exhibited at a vernissage that opened last week in Granada. The painting was insured for approximately €600,000.
The cultural center said that while unpacking the works for display in the halls, gallery staff realized that one of the paintings was missing.
Initially, more than fifty works by various artists were stored in the Spanish capital, which were to be sent to the exhibition in Granada.
Although, according to the Spanish press, all conditions for the storage and transportation of the paintings were strictly observed, Picasso’s “Still Life with Guitar” disappeared during transport.
Law enforcement officials are convinced that the artist’s work was stolen by criminals. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
