Pentagon recommended providing Ukraine with white phosphorus shells

The Pentagon has recommended providing Ukraine with shells with white phosphorus, the White House opposes it.

White phosphorus is instantly inflamed by oxygen. The substance burns at very high temperatures and is difficult to extinguish.

Human rights activists are also known to object to its use near civilians.

This chemical can cause burns to human skin, it can also cause damage to the lungs and eyes.

White phosphorus ammunition is not illegal, and white phosphorus is not classified as a chemical weapon under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
