New Zealand tracks down its first-ever spy

It has been reported that, for the first time in the country’s history, a military court in New Zealand has convicted a spy.

A New Zealand soldier was found guilty of attempting to spy for a foreign country, according to The Guardian.

The court found that the soldier wanted to pass on maps of military bases and photographs to a fake officer who was posing as a foreign intelligence agent.

He became the subject of interest to the authorities after the 2019 terrorist attack, when law enforcement agencies stepped up their fight against right-wing extremist groups.

During surveillance, it was discovered that the soldier had made contact with a third party. He expressed his desire to desert and offered his services.

During a search of the defendant’s home, police found ammunition, a copy of the video recording of the mass murder in the Christchurch mosques, and the shooter’s manifesto.
