A drought in China has revealed mysterious alien patterns at the bottom of the dried up Dongting Lake, located in Hunan province.
Video of the strange formations soon circulated on Chinese social media.
A spokesman for the department that manages the lake suggested that the patterns were the remains of fishing traps known as “ai wei”.
However, not everyone believed this explanation. After all, each block of patterns that appeared is the size of a soccer field.
The lake is the second-largest freshwater lake in the country, and the drought has caused it to lose almost 70% of its water.
