It has been reported that scientists have detected unusual gamma radiation in the center of our galaxy.
Experts believe that it may be caused by the collision of dark matter particles. The study was published in Physical Review Letters.
The mysterious glow, known as the Galactic Center gamma-ray excess, cannot be explained solely by pulsars, as previously thought.
An international team of astronomers used supercomputer models to test the shape and distribution of dark matter in the Milky Way.
The simulation showed that its halo in the center of the galaxy is slightly flattened, rather than perfectly round, and it is this shape that creates the glow observed by telescopes.
This similarity led scientists to suggest that the source of gamma radiation could be the annihilation of dark matter particles.
Scientists note that it is not yet possible to say with certainty that the source of the radiation is dark matter, but the probability of this is increasing.
