American billionaire and inventor Elon Musk is going to give blind people their sight back within a year.
He stated this in an interview with Fox News channel.
Musk confirmed that the company Neuralink is working on a technology that can restore sight to people with complete loss of visual function.
The vision system, called Blindsight, was first reported in the spring of 2024.
Then, Musk noted that the first tests gave a positive result: scientists managed to partially restore vision to a monkey.
Blindsight will be implanted in the first person in the next 12 months, the billionaire noted.
The essence of the innovation is a direct connection to the visual cortex of the brain, bypassing damaged eyes and nerves.
Musk specified that at the initial stages of visualization will be similar to primitive computer graphics, but over time the technology should reach a superhuman level.
In the future, the company plans to help patients with spinal cord injuries regain the ability to walk.
The plan is to implant 20–30 patients within a year.
