Kobe Bryant’s jersey sold at auction for $7 million
The jersey in which five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant played seven games in his debut 1996/97 season sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $7 million.
ESPN reports on the successful bidding at the auction.
In this jersey, Bryant, among other things, played in his debut games in the preseason and the NBA regular season.
The deal was a record for all Bryant-related sports collectibles.
It broke the record of $5.84 million that was spent on an autographed game jersey from the 2007/08 season.
In that sold jersey, the basketball player won his only NBA MVP award.
Kobe Bryant, who finished his career in 2016, won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.
He played his entire career for his club, and he also won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA.
Bryant, 41, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other people died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, near Los Angeles.
