Italy intends to take away the SAMP/T air defense system from Slovakia
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said Italy would withdraw the SAMP/T air defense system from his country because it was “needed elsewhere”.
This is reported by Aktuality.
“The previous government gave Ukraine a functioning Russian S-300 air defense system. Then we had the American Patriots for a while, then they left, and now the Italians are coming,” Fizzo said, adding that he had received a corresponding message from the Italian government.
Fico, known for his pro-Russian rhetoric, asks who will now protect Slovakia’s nuclear power plants and other strategic facilities.
Slovakia provided S-300s to Ukraine after a large-scale Russian invasion in 2022.
In 2023, the American Patriot system was deployed in the country, but then it was replaced by the Italian SAMP/T air defense system.
It is not known where SAMP/T will be redirected now. There is speculation on social networks that the system may be transferred to Ukraine.
