It became known that South Africa was hit by a powerful winter storm; the death toll has risen to 49 people.

It is reported that since the weekend, in some parts of South Africa have observed heavy rain and snowfall.

With a severe winter cold front, the winter storm has disrupted transportation and energy networks, writes Reuters.

Earlier, it was reported that a school bus was washed away by flooding near Mtata (South Africa). In the bus were 13 schoolchildren and two adults.

Six people on the bus were found dead, and four are still missing.

The country’s meteorological service predicts that the cold front will persist until the middle of the week.

The agency also writes that in South Africa during the winter months from June to August, snowfalls fall regularly.

And the temperature drops below zero degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).
