It has become known that Israel is considering a special forces raid on Iran’s nuclear facility in Fordow.
This could happen if it fails to be reached by special U.S. bombs, Axios reported, citing sources.
One U.S. official said the Israelis might not be able to get deep enough into the mountain with bombs but could “do it with people.”
Also, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Ambassador to the U.S. Leiter have hinted in recent interviews that the Israel Defense Forces have options beyond air strikes.
Israeli special forces already carried out a similar but smaller operation last September, when they destroyed an underground missile factory in Syria by planting and detonating explosives.
“Now that Israel has full control of Iranian airspace and has dealt a heavy blow to the Iranian military, this option seems less drastic than before,” the publication wrote.
Meanwhile, Trump doubts that U.S. bombs can destroy Iran’s nuclear infrastructure deep underground.
He is pressing his aides to clarify this question. Because of these doubts, he has not yet decided to launch a military operation.
Trump wants to make sure that such an attack would achieve the goal of destroying Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and not just drag the U.S. into a protracted war.
Israeli officials also fear that if the Fordow facility survives the attack, Iran will maintain its nuclear program.
