In New York, a fisherman pulled out a safe full of $100 bills

In New York, a local fisherman named James Kane, with the help of a powerful magnet, pulled out of the water a metal safe full of 100-dollar bills.

This was reported by the Washington Post.

A video of him pulling the slippery safe out of a lake in Flushing Meadows Park was published online.

The video shows him pulling out the wet and mud-covered Benjamin Franklin bills from inside.

“Oh, that’s money! That’s it! Stacks of bills!” Cain says in the video:.

There was reportedly about $100,000 in the safe, though the bills were partially unfolded and glued together.

The bills had 3-D security tape on them, indicating a recent vintage, but there were no clues to the safe’s rightful owner.

He called the police to report his discovery. There, they were told there was no evidence of a crime.

The New York Police Department said the “value and authenticity of the alleged currency” could not be determined because of its “significantly destroyed condition.”

Kane and Agostini plan to take their soaked money to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C., to exchange it for new dollars.

Some of the paperwork is probably too damaged for an exchange, though. They want to spend the money on a new car and content creation equipment.
